Padel in Miami: Where to Play, What to Bring.

Padel in Miami is played outdoors, and mostly in the evening. The courts sit in a handful of neighbourhoods — Wynwood, Downtown, the Design District, North Miami — and the busy ones fill days ahead, not on the way over. The part visitors get wrong is the racket. Miami averages 91 °F (33 °C) in August, with morning humidity near 86 per cent, and the inside of a parked car goes far past that. A racket left on a back seat between sessions is the one piece of kit a Miami trip tends to ruin. What follows is the short version of both halves: where to play, and what to carry.

Where the Courts Are.

Four addresses cover most of the city’s padel, and they sit close enough together that a visitor rarely needs a fifth.

The scene moves within a season: courts are added, booking rules change, clubs open. Confirm the slot with the club itself before crossing town for it.

Heat Is the Opponent.

A padel racket is a carbon skin over a foam core, and the core is the part that minds the weather. EVA softens as it warms. Held long enough above roughly 55 °C (131 °F) it stops springing back, and the racket loses its bounce for good. A car parked in the sun on a 35 °C day averages about 47 °C inside after an hour and near 60 °C after three, with the dashboard hotter still.

The habit that prevents it is dull and it works: the racket comes indoors with you, in its cover, and never spends an afternoon in a hot car. What to Bring.

• Two overgrips. Humidity here does in one evening what a long season does elsewhere.
• A cover, used between matches and not only in transit.
• More water than an hour of doubles seems to warrant.
• The racket you already play with. An outdoor court in August is a poor place to meet a new one.

Which Racket, Outdoors.

Open air is harder to read than an indoor hall — wind off the bay, low sun through the glass, a ball that sits up differently at 30 °C than at 18 °C. Control is worth more than power in that setting, and forgiveness is worth more than either.

Storage does, rather than play. The EVA core softens as it warms and is changed for good above roughly 55 °C (131 °F), a temperature the inside of a parked car passes within a few hours on a sunny Florida day. Playing in the heat is fine. Leaving the racket in the car afterwards is not.
